Who are the Sine Die Smokers?

We are the award-winning Sine Die Smokers BBQ Team and this year we will be celebrating TWENTY ONE years of doing good thru BBQ! Our awesome team is composed of over 40 dedicated members from inside and around the Texas State Capitol. We were founded back in 2003 to compete in the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo BBQ Cook-off, which raises funds for college scholarships. In our 11 years of participating at the rodeo, our team raised more than $320,000 of dedicated scholarship funds. That’s a lot to be proud of, but we didn’t stop there!

In 2014 we struck out on our own and changed course while staying a bit closer to our Capitol stomping grounds. The decision was made to focus our annual charity fundraising efforts on a variety of worthy non-profits through an annual BBQ Party with and for our Capitol-related friends.

In the nine years since we began this new approach, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to partner with the outstanding Capitol-connected KK125 charity, and we raised more than $110,000 to expand ovarian cancer research in Texas. Since 2016 we have switched focus to hunger issues and have supported the Central Texas Food Bank, while simultaneously coordinating with Mace Massingill’s No Hunger Inc and his #nohunger movement. To date we have raised more than $500,000 to help end hunger and we are going to keep at it, with #nohunger and the Central Texas Food Bank once again being named the beneficiaries of our November 2-3, 2023 event.

In the Sine Die Smokers’ 21 years of volunteering together, we have become more than a team – we have become a family. No one on our team is a professional Pit Master, but as you can tell from our awards page, we know how to cook and we definitely know how to throw a good party!

We are so thankful for the amazing friends we have made thru our work and we are thankful for the good we can do thru BBQ. Here at Sine Die Smokers, we don’t believe in being hungry. No one leaves our party hungry, and we don’t like the idea of any of our fellow Texans going hungry either. So, we are going to do our part to help end hunger in this great State of ours. And we are going to have a lot of fun in the process!
